In Trails Advocacy

Tonight sees our very special Pines on the agenda at the Shire’s Council meeting.

We’d love to see as many members along to the meeting to provide their support for the Pines.

The meeting takes place at Council Chambers at the Shire from 5.30pm with the Pines being the last of the agenda items for discussion.

Here is the motion being raised:

That Council requests the Forest Products Commission forgo their planned logging activities in order to retain the existing pine forest in Carters Road as a venue for developing off-road cycling tracks suitable for both competitive cycling and family recreation in keeping with the South West Mountain Bike Master Plan.

Background Information

The South West Mountain Bike Master Plan vision is to enable the world-class development of an innovative, high quality and cohesive network of trails in the SW, which offer varied experiences and cater for the progression and diverse styles of riding while maintaining local character. The implementation of the plan will see the South West developed into an international destination of choice for Mountain Bike tourism and provide significant opportunities to West Australians to experience world-class trails.

The plan identifies Collie, Margaret River and Pemberton as priority areas for mountain bike trails and the further development of the Pines site is an important step in
progressing the SW Mountain Bike Master Plan and Margaret River as a priority location for mountain biking.

Please note that as a result of the meeting this weeks Summer Series will be cancelled… we’ll see you again next week for our XC Week.
