The Middle Earth Epic is a social charity mountain bike ride showcasing The Middle Earth trail network and areas of surrounding natural bush including Cane Brake Pool.
The Middle Earth Epic is in its fourth year now. Last year we raised $2,000 for the Margaret River Off Road Cycling Association (MRORCA) and some funds towards Middle Earth trail maintenance.
This is NOT a race but a social ride.
How long? 50km and 75km options.
The course this year is to be different to last year. We will start at the Beer Farm and ride to Middle Earth and do approximately 10km on the famous single track before heading out into the bush as we did last year. We are seeking access to Cane Brake Pool as our rest stop before the return trip finishing back at the Beer Farm.
This is an event, that while challenging, has an emphasis on fun. We stress to riders that this event is not a race but a fun social ride to enjoy the South West bush with friends or connect with like minded people.
Last year’s event was a huge success and the feedback we received was very positive. We see this as an event that takes away the pressure and stress of racing and reminds riders why they like to be out on their bike.
This years event is seeking to raise funds for a 4WD Guttos Power Barrow to help with the maintenance of Middle Earth. This item will also be available to local clubs to help with their trail maintenance. Part proceeds will also go to MRORCA and we are currently looking at donating some funds to a flora or fawna project in the areas as well. This is all dependent on participant numbers.
We are also working on a new Middle Earth Jersey Design which we hope to have ready for this year’s event. Keep your eyes peeled for the great unveiling.
As usual local businesses have been very generous and will be donating some merchandise for spot prizes, similar to previous years. Without the support of these businesses this event would not be the success it has become. Massive thanks to The Golden Jersey, Bike Shed Dunsborough, Mad Cycles Bunbury, Humble Bicycle Co, Life Cycle Bikes, The Hairy Marron, MBC Metro Brewing Co and The Beer Farm.
